Life is about embarking on a journey in order to discover your true purpose. For us the journey is real estate investing, and our purpose is in helping others. I recently read the novel, The Alchemist, and felt inspired; the concepts from the novel relate directly to real estate investing, business, and creating wealth.

On this episode of Investing in Real Estate, Natali and I are discussing several of the overarching themes from The Alchemist, and applying those ideas to real estate investing. We’ll contemplate making business decisions on a spiritual level, the importance of overcoming fear, and how to be a positive influence to others.

This holiday season, our family watched a classic Christmas film, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Natali and I both felt like we were viewing the movie with a new perspective this time. It might not be obvious, but there is a parallel between the storyline and the power of real estate investing.

On this episode of Investing in Real Estate, I’m expressing the importance of not being solely a paycheck employee like Clark Griswold. I’ll share the risks of relying on the hope of a year-end bonus, and how real estate investing can help you reach financial freedom. Please join me on episode 252 of Investing in Real Estate.

To the untrained real estate investor, an A class property can be appealing. Since the rent is higher in an A class neighborhood, you might have your sights set on higher rental amounts and a higher class of tenant. However, most successful real estate investors know that these properties don’t make for great investments.

Today’s guest, Lane Kawaoka, learned this lesson early on in his investing career, and he’s here to share his experience. We’re discussing the drawbacks of investing in an A class neighborhood, and how to find a solid rental market. Lane is sharing his strategy for portfolio growth, and how he reached financial freedom. Lane has so much insight to share; you won’t want to miss episode 251 of Investing in Real Estate!

I've worked with a lot of real estate investors, and I've noticed that many of them make one dire mistake. I see it all the time—a rookie investor thinks they can make more in rent and attract a higher quality tenant by making extraneous purchases, but it never works out that way. Inexperienced investors often try to over upgrade their property based on what is appropriate for the neighborhood.

On this episode of Investing in Real Estate, I'll share more about why this rookie mistake is such a serious problem. I'll talk about why over upgrading your property decreases your ROI, and I'll give one exception to this rule! Don't miss episode 243!

A few months ago, we posted a video in which we discussed the behind the scenes decision-making process of a potential real estate purchase. Since then, we ultimately decided to follow through on the purchase. This deal was unlike our other real estate purchases. Typically we conduct the entire closing process electronically, and never see our rentals in person.

However, this was a rare local purchase, and I actually was able to speak with the seller—a retiring millionaire landlord. On today’s show, Natali and I are sharing the lessons we’ve learned from this experience. Please join us on episode 241 of Investing in Real Estate!

I’ll talk about why you don’t see commercials for real estate investing, and how to start breaking out of traditional paradigms about wealth building.
